Missiles have been in every Metroid game to date. They also provide around 50% of the items obtained throughout each game! In Metroid Prime, this case is no different. There are a total of 49 Missile Expansions throughout Tallon IV, not including the Missile Launcher you obtain after defeating the Hive Mecha in the Chozo Ruins. Each expansion gives the player 5 more Missiles to Samus's Missile carrying capacity. In total, Samus can have a maximum of 250 missiles. Since there is so many Missile Expansions throughout the game, I will not hesitate you any longer. This guide will show you the missile expansions based on those earliest obtainable to latest. The yellow boxes provide a brief description of their location while the text below it provides a more directive and guiding approach.
This expansion is obtainable once you get the Missile Launcher.
This one is hard to miss. Once you are in the Ruined Gallery, look for the crumbled wall in the back of the room. Throw a missile at it and claim the first Missile Pack.
Missile total: 10
This expansion becomes available once you get the Morph Ball.
In the Watery Hall Access, you might notice a slightly cracked wall to the side of the room. Hit it with a missile and grab the second Missile Pack.
Missile Total: 15
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Morph Ball Bombs.
Across from the doorway in the Burn Dome, there should be an arched brick wall. Roll into Morph Ball and place a Bomb next to it. After the explosion, enter the secret room beyond to collect the third Missile Pack.
Missile Total: 20
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Morph Ball Bombs.
In the Watery Hall, there should be a spot that is breakable by a Bomb. Go over there and place a Morph Ball Bomb. Enter the corridor and enter the Dynamo. Blast the gate guarding the fourth Missile Pack with... a missile.
Missile Total: 25
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Morph Ball Bombs.
Uh, the description above pretty much covers it. Once your in the Ruined Nursery, go over to the little Morph Ball maze and blast your way to the expansion.
Missile Total: 30
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Morph Ball Bombs.
In the Ruined Gallery, you should notice a semi-circular hole in the wall. Use a Morph Ball Bomb to hop into the tunnel and grab the sixth Missile Pack.
Missile Total: 35
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Morph Ball Bombs.
Again, a fairly self explanatory expansion location. In the Ruined Shrine you should notice another brick-covered section of wall. Blast it with a Morph Ball Bomb and grab the expansion.
Missile Total: 40
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Morph Ball Bombs.
In the Vault there are three circular slots locking the Missile Expansion inside the grating. The first one is on the floor. Power it with a Bomb. The second one you must reach with a bomb jump. The third requires a triple bomb jump. After putting Bombs in each of the slots, all the locks will break and you can claim your prize.
Missile Total: 45
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Varia Suit.
Once your in the Magmoor Caverns, head to the Triclops Pit. It's the room with a lot of... Triclops in a pit... Head to the red lit room under the rooms entrance. Once in this area, enter the grating below via Morph Ball. Once your under the grates, head to a hidden room in the back corner. In this room, the Storage Cavern, is the ninth Missile Pack.
Missile Total: 50
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Varia Suit.
When you enter the Monitor Station, take the door to your left into a room with a bunch of Triclops standing near a pipe. Take out the Triclops and enter the pipe via Morph Ball and Bomb. Once you reach the other side of the pipe, shoot the nearby crates to reveal an entrance to a Morph Ball maze. Navigate your way to the tenth Missile Pack.
Missile Total: 55
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Boost Ball.
When you enter the Transport Tunnel B, drop down the ledge into the gases. Under the rock bridge, there should be the eleventh Missile Expansion.
Missile Total: 60
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Morph Ball.
Near your Gunship at the Landing Site, there should be a small cavern in which you can traverse through via Morph Ball. There are Tangle Weeds in there, but they won't hurt you, only slow you down. Keep moving until you reach the twelfth Missile expansion.
Missile Total: 65
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Super Missile.
This expansion is a test of your control and balance abilities. Once you clear the Research Lab Aether, jump over to the tiny ledge just below the uppermost floor and roll along this windy and very narrow catwalk. Don't go too fast or you will fall and have to start all over again. Take gentle movements forward and around the catwalk until you reach the thirteenth Missile Expansion. Good job!
Missile Total: 70
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Super Missile.
This one is very simple. After clearing the Research Lab Hydra of enemies, head to the upper floor, charge up your Power Beam, and hit the nearby stasis tank with a Super Missile. For using 5 Missiles, you get 5 Missiles back from the expansion and a larger maximum carrying capacity! Good deal!
Missile Total: 75
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Boost Ball.
The only reason I waited to get this expansion this late is because it saves you one trip to the Chozo Ruins again and is in the same room as another expansion only obtainable with the Super Missile. Anyways, you've seen the expansion before, well I hope you have. Use the Boost Ball on the half-pipe to reach the expansion.
Missile Total: 80
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Super Missile.
After the last expansion, move towards the nearby tree. Pull out the Power Beam, charge it up, and shoot a Super Missile near the knot of the tree. Inside is the sixteenth Missile Expansion. Double jump to claim your prize.
Missile Total: 85
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Space Jump Boots.
Yet another expansion I waited to tell you about in order to save you yet ANOTHER trip to the Chozo Ruins... Once in the Gathering Hall, make your way all the way to the top of the room. Now make your way to the platform just above the door to the Energy Core. Use a Morph Ball Bomb to break the gate and free the Missile Expansion.
Missile Total: 90
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Spider Ball.
In the Crossway, you will notice another half-pipe. On the sides of the half-pipe (high up as well) are some Morph Ball slots. Boost Ball your way to each slot and place a Bomb in them to activate them. Once all slots are activated there should be a piston lift now functioning. Roll over to it and get on. It will take you to the eighteenth Missile Expansion.
Missile Total: 95
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Ice Beam.
Once in the Overgrown Caver, shoot the Venom Weed so that they hide into the ground. You should see a Missile Expansion. Grab it before the Venom Weed reemerge.
Missile Total: 100
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Gravity Suit.
You MUST have the Gravity Suit to get this. Once in the Frigate Crash Site (and killing the Flying Pirates via Ice Beam and Missiles) dive into the water. Go near the center of the lake and look for an alcove holding a Missile Expansion. Jump and get it.
Missile Total: 105
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Gravity Suit.
Once in the Biohazard Containment, some Aqua Drones will attack. Kill them and pull out the Scan Visor and look for the Cordite door in the room. Once you locate it, use a Super Missile to destroy it. Grab the twenty-first Missile Expansion.
Missile Total: 110
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Gravity Suit.
Once in the Main Quarry, clear the room of all Space Pirates. Once you have killed the pirates, climb up to the crane and find the power conduit that feeds the control booth. Use the Scan Visor to activate the crane which will then slam itself into some rocks revealing a Missile Expansion. Use the Spider Ball to reach the expansion.
Missile Total: 115
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Gravity Suit.
A common theme in the Phazon Mines expansions is that it is VERY WISE to kill the pirates in the room before going for the expansion. If this is your first visit, try not to take too much damage, as the first Save Station in the mines is very very far away from the entrance.
That said, lets continue. Once you are in the Elite Research and have cleared the room of Wave and Power Troopers, head to the top floor of the room. There should be a spinner that allows you to change the facing of the large Pulse Beam Cannon in the middle of the room. Turn the cannon to the left wall (from where you started) and use the Scan Visor to on the control panel to shoot a large blast at the wall. After the explosion, grab the twenty-third Missile Expansion.
Missile Total: 120
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Gravity Suit.
This expansion is, in my opinion, the most fun to get in the entire game. Why? Well lets just say that when you enter the Elite Control Access and immediately shoot the explosive crate on the nearby ledge, you get more than just a Missile Expansion...
Missile Total: 125
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Power Bombs and the Grapple Beam.
The Life Grove Tunnel is a Morph Ball Maze. There should be a section where you can use a half-pipe to gain some serious air. There should also be a ledge at which you can boost ball to with enough speed. Get up to that ledge, blow up the rocks in your way and grab the Missile Expansion. This is a test of your Boost Ball skills.
Missile Total: 130
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the X-Ray Visor.
In the Great Tree Hall, clear the room of the Chozo Ghosts if you already obtained the Artifact of the Chozo. After all is calm again, use the X-Ray Visor to locate an invisible platform leading up to a door that appeared to be unreachable before. Enter the room and grab the Missile Expansion.
Missile Total: 135
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the X-Ray Visor.
Once in the Triclops Pit, turn your X-Ray Visor and locate some invisible platforms. Use them to reach a large rock spire with a Missile Expansion inside. Charge up your Power Beam and throw a Super Missile at the rock spire to break the face. Jump to claim your prize.
Missile Total: 140
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Plasma Beam.
Again, I saving you a bunch of trips to the Chozo Ruins. About half the Missiles are there, so I'm trying to make your trips here as few and plentiful as possible.
Anyways, to get this expansion, you must first make your way to the Ruined Shrine. There should be some Chozo Ghosts but you can ignore them you wont be here long. Use the half-pipe to reach a small tunnel to your right. There should be a Missile Expansion after rolling through it. Get out, and again, don't bother with the Chozo Ghosts. They are just a waste of time...
Missile Total: 145
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Plasma Beam.
Once you are in the Ruined fountain, you should notice the geyser almost immediately. Got onto the water hole, roll into the Morph Ball and let it shoot you up to a Spider Ball track. Climb up and there should be a Missile Expansion waiting.

Once in the Main Plaza, make your way up to the bridge. You should see an expansion in the distance near the door where you entered the Chozo Ruins the first time. Since you have the Grapple Beam, use it to get to the far ledge holding the expansion.
Missile Total: 160
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Plasma Beam.
Once you reach the Watery Hall, its time for a swim. Dive into the water and look for the tunnel in the back of the room. Water visibility is improved with the Gravity Suit fortunately, so it's not hard to find. Beyond the tunnel is a hidden chamber with the Thirty-second Missile Expansion.
Missile Total - 165
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Plasma Beam.
Once in the Dynamo, use the Spider Ball track to reach the expansion above the generator.
Missile Total: 170
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Plasma Beam.
Once in the Furnace, clear the room of Chozo Ghosts via X-Ray Visor and Super Missile. Once the Ghosts are gone look for the secret half-pipe with the X-Ray Visor. Go into Morph Ball and place a Power Bomb. That should make the half-pipe accessible. Use it to reach a Spider Ball track above. Be careful, there are plenty of Plated Parasites to knock you of the rails. You should eventually reach a pipe near the top of the room. Watch your shadow and fall onto the tiny pipe once you get a safe landing confirmation. Carefully roll across the pipe to reach another track. Keep making your way until you reach a Missile Expansion at the end of the road. Congratulations! You have collected all the Missile Expansions in the Chozo Ruins!
Missile Total: 175
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Plasma Beam.
Once you enter the Security Access, clear the room of Shadow Pirates first. After dealing with them, search the room for a cracked metal wall. Use a Power Bomb to break it and grab the expansion.
Missile Total: 180

If this is the first time you've come to the Metroid Quarantine A, feel free to scan the nearby terminal to set the Metroids free so they can kill the Power Toopers for you! Now switch to the Ice Beam and be prepared to kill some Metroids the old fashioned way! If your new to the series, shoot the Metroids with the Ice Beam to freeze them and shoot a Missile to finnish them.
For the expansion in the room, pull out the X-Ray Visor to locate some invisible platforms above the Phazon. Go up to the mushroom on the left and make your way across the deadly Phazon pit. Once you reach another mushroom (should be on your right this time), hop onto the invisible platform to a ledge on the far side of the room. Use a pair of Power Bombs to break the wall hiding the Missile Expansion.
Missile Total: 185
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Plasma Beam.
Once in the Fungi Hall Access, first kill the pirate in the room... Then drop down the shaft onto any platform you can find. This expansion is underneath a large mushroom, and to obtain it you will need to go into Morph Ball and quickly grab the expansion. If you spend too much time in the Phazon (assuming you don't have the Phazon Suit yet), the Phazon will kill you.
Missile Total: 190
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Plasma Beam.
Once you enter Fungi Hall B you might notice THERE ARE NO LIGHTS! Don't panic, we've encountered this before in the Phendrana Drifts. Pull out either the X-Ray or Thermal Visor, it really doesn't matter which, but choose the once you find easier to navigate with.
To get the expansion, make your way across the Phazon pools by jumping from shroom to shroom. Eventually, you will be able to see the Missile Expansion with either the Thermal Visor. It should be located under a red door (which leads to a Missile Station btw). Carefully jump down from the ledge with the red door into the small cave with the expansion. Grab it and continue.

Use a Power Bomb to break the brick wall and grab the Missile Expansion.
Missile Total: 205
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Plasma Beam.
Once in the Quarantine Cave, use the Spider Ball to reach a ledge with a door to the elevator. Use the Grapple Beam to swing to a ledge with a pipe on it. Roll into it via Morph Ball to reach the Quarantine Monitor. Inside this room is a Missile Expansion.
Missile Total: 210
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Plasma Beam.
Head to the Gravity Chamber. Once there, pull out your Plasma Beam and use it to melt the icicles on the ceiling. You can now use the Grapple Beam to reach another Missile Expansion on nearby ledge.
Missile Total: 215
This expansion becomes obtainable once you get the Plasma Beam.
Once in the Frost Cave, use the Grapple Beam to reach a far ledge where you can get a good view of the stalactite above. Now you can shoot it down via Missile. Once it falls and destroys the ice protecting the lake, head down into the frozen depths and grab the Missile Expansion.
