Weapons Guide (Online + Offline)

Written by SmilerAl | Last updated 8 months ago | 2 Thanks |

Running and gunning is a fool's game; you need to be at one with your artillery to really shine. As you progress through the game, you'll pick up more and more guns to add to your arsenal, but use them wisely... This guide is all about the weapons in R:FoM, I could never find one so I decided to make one myself. It will explain both offline and online guns. Most Guides to Resistance don’t include a weapons part or not much detail.

Info If you ever play online mode(Best part of the game) then you get the chance to play as Hybrid, the main difference between Humans is Rage Mode, it causes you to see body heat but it also increases weapon damage (VERY handy)
Info Also note, this guide hasn't been updated in over 2 years, there for patches for the game may alter or change anything related with the weapons, if you wish to notify me of this so I can edit the information, feel free to email me.

You should view this as your default weapon of choice; it has the most ammo available to it, it's accurate, and it causes a decent amount of damage. It also has a Grenade Launcher function on L1 that's handy to use when you're out of grenades or LAARK ammo and when you feel when online you'll die if you don’t kill him quickly.

Online change - Just as good as on Single Player but carry’s only two Grenade Launcher's at a time. Can also be another annoying weapon with infinite ammo on as you can just nuke every thing around you!

Main Hybrid weapon of choice; you’ll know it from the orange bullets you're constantly dodging. It's not the strongest or most accurate of weapons, but the secondary Homing Tag ability is great for taking down turret users, Titans and Angels. Press L1 to latch one and then fire from cover.

Online change - Seems to be less accurate and has infinite Tags.

Essential for close encounters with Gray Jacks and Howlers, this shotgun stuns such enemies in their path, stopping them from swiping at you. You should use this in tight quarters or whenever hostiles get to close. Pressing L1 shoots both barrels - great for killing in bulk.

Online change - *WARNING* VERY deadly at close range when playing as Hybrid in rage mode, can wreck any one's day. Clip only holds 6 rounds too so its slows down the killing spree.

Noobish or genius? Whatever the case, shooting through walls is a dam great skill that this baby brings to you repertoire. Watch for when your crosshairs turns red to know when an enemy is waiting on the other side of a wall and let rip; very useful against bigger Chimera too, and with the energy shield you can watch them die at the same time.

Info Steel Heads can still hit you no matter what as they use the gun too.

Online change - Playing as Hybrids is when this gun becomes useful, some guy hiding behind a wall with a Rossmore and you spotted him first? Well just pop it out and lay a couple in the head. The shields also recharge over time.

One of the most useful guns in the game because of its focus ability that slows down time (hold L1). You don't have to limit its use to extreme ranges either as it recharges over time. Use it to nab some head shots against some of the bigger guys.

Online change - No focus, but you don’t have to reload your clip either.

XR-005 HailStorm - Fires green bolts that bounce off walls and objects. Be creative; use it to fire around corners, with L1 into a tight room just as affective as a grenade.

Online change - Taken out

The rocket launcher; no game is complete without it. This is best against Stalkers and Widow Makers. Hold L1 to stop in mid-air then R1 to release lots of more rockets that can kill any thing with ONE shot.

Online change - the L1 to R1 function is neither useful nor as powerful on Single Player.

Info YOU WILL GET A LOT OF GREIF IN CUSTOM GAMES WITH UNLIMTED AMMO ON ONLINE!

XR-003 Sapper – As pointless as it seems at first, it actually has 3 brilliant uses: one, lay some of its mines on Leaper Pods to melt them away upon impact; two, lay some down in front of you when ambushed by Rollers; an three, drop them as a trap and L1 to detonate.

Found entering the building on 'The Gauntlet', these two handguns target enemies in your view once they have been under the aim of your crosshairs at least once. Hold R1 and L1 to fire both guns at once, not having to worry about aiming! They are pretty good as killing menials on Hard mode and SH as you need two hits with a gun to kill them and the Reapers have a unique way of melee which you do this karate chop action with both at the same time.

Info I'm under the impression they were never allowed on Co-op splitscreen. May still be true.

Found just before the wormhole during the 'No Way Out' chapter of Cheshire. Its power multiplies with ever shot, tagging onto enemies for a second when you can trigger an Are by pressing L1 to damage multiply enemies. Very useful closely pact enemies.

Online change - Less ammo but it’s a weapon underestimated...

Found in the Bristol, 'Devil at the Door' stage; after the Titan, go down the left isle with all the mines and find it in the room. It’s just a plain useless Flame-Thrower to most gamers but by holding L1 you can charge it up for about 2-3 seconds and release and you got a 1-hit 1-kil to most Chimera.

Online changes - Smaller gas tank but VERY lethal to Chimera with L1 as it will melt them on the spot! But useless against humans unless you want to rank up on assists.

Found round on the second floor as you approach the windows of the 'A Desperate Gamble' stage in London. It fires a packet of explosive rounds that you can split by pressing L1 as the zoom ahead. VERY USEFULL against almost every one as it’s as powerful as the LAARK but without the blast radius.

Throw these whenever you see a cluster of enemies or to damage foes that refuse to move out of the way of cover. Also us them to destroy Leaper Pods if out of Sapper ammo.

Online change - Most useful grenade online, carry limit only 2 though, will also explode on impact if you hit the enemy directly with the grenade, thanks to Gmundy for the tip.

Not as damaging as Frags but still useful in dishing out pain to multiple targets. Use them in similar instances to Frags and consider them to be your helper in combat.

Online change - 2nd useful grenade online, carry limit is still 2.

BBQ in 5-10 seconds! Only really good in Single Player and CO-OP, as it just fry and burn. Its sticks to walls though and makes a green gas affect with a blast of fire soon after. Also if you hold onto O after you've thrown it the gas will "leak" all of the gas causing extra damage and the ability to time the bomb although it will go off eventually.

Online changes - Last grenade to use, only good in unlimited rounds when you can just napalm your opponent as the only people who fall for this is noobs who ignore the gas or people who are in a huge gun-fight and to busy to hide, run, doge and shoot all at the time.

Another note, Air-Fuel Grenades can be stuck to opponents (think Plasma Grenades if your a Halo fan) and they have to shake the controller to get it off. Thanks to Gmundy for the tip.

Found immediate left in the building after the Cathedral, (Manchester) these grenades release a big round force shield, damaging those Chimera that are touching inside the bubble and reflecting their bullets into them! Also good against Stalkers that tend to stay still and shoot. By far THE BEST grenade in the game so you should look after them and they'll look after you.

Info I sold R:FoM well before the Manchester Cathedral was taken out, so I'm unsure if the infomation above still holds true.
